Twin Cities Red Cross Responds to 35W Bridge Collapse

The tragedy on the 35W Bridge will forever be part of our community.

And the way our community responded will forever be a part of our lives.

The American Red Cross wants to thank you

For your response, for your partnership,

And for your on-going support.

We are, all of us, family.

We cross generations.

We reach out to comfort.

We cross into danger to help one another

And to keep each other safe.

Bridges will break.  There will be storms.

There will be disaster.  And there will be loss.

But there will forever be ways to cross any barrier

To reach each other.

Heroes wear many uniforms.  Many heroes wear no uniform at all.

What they have in common is that, no matter the danger, they are

There to help when there is a singular need to act.

And in doing that...in making that crossing,

They help us, everyone.

Yes.  We are family.  All of us connected.

And true heroes walk among us.

The American Red Cross salutes you.  And thanks you profoundly.

News on the Red Cross Response

Twin Cities Red Cross headquarters, located just one block from the bridge collapse site, has been an integral part of the disaster response from the beginning when the children from the school bus were brought to our building for safety.

The American Red Cross is working closely with a number of partner organizations to provide mental health assistance to victims and their families. Red Cross mental health staff and nurses have comforted more than 700 people dealing with grief, trauma and medical conditions. We've also provided emotional support for an additional 1,288 people who expressed concern about missing loved ones.

Red Cross teams of mental health volunteers and health services workers have visited all the local hospitals where survivors have been taken and have contacted affected families.

More than 560 Red Cross staff and volunteers have given their time to help those affected by this tragedy. So far, we've served more than 9,400 meals and almost 35,000 snacks to families and first responders. For more information on our response, please click on the news links below.
