Red Cross Opens Service Centers in MN/WI Flood Areas

The American Red Cross has opened Service Centers to assist the thousands of clients affected by the floods in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Client case workers are meeting with individuals and families one-on-one to determine their needs. Emergency assistance is provided on a case-by-case basis. Red Cross licensed Mental Health and Health professionals are also available at the Service Centers helping survivors with stress caused by the trauma of flooding.

Following are the Red Cross services that have been provided to date to clients affected by the flooding in Minnesota and Wisconsin:

 

  • Over 36,000 meals served
  • Over 53,000 snacks distributed
  • Deployed 25 Emergency Response Vehicles to deliver water, food, and supplies to 10 counties affected by the flooding
  • Started distributing clean-up kits which contain a broom, mop, bucket, disinfectant, rubber gloves and other items to help clean-up their homes.
  • Started distributing comfort kits which contain personal hygiene items for each family member.
  • Over 800 Red Cross volunteers from Minnesota and at least 25 states are assisting in the relief efforts.
  • The Red Cross mobilized licensed health and mental health professionals to help survivors cope with the stress caused by the trauma of flooding.

 

The American Red Cross estimates the entire relief effort for the Minnesota-Wisconsin floods will cost approximately 2.9 million dollars and is reaching out to the American public for support

 

The Red Cross urges all affected residents to register on our Safe and Well site, www.safeandwell.org. Residents can leave a message for their loved ones letting them know of their well-being.
